Over the last two years or so, increasing numbers of Internet marketers have been finding a new outlet for their interest. They've discovered a new market for their Internet skills.
While many offline business owners are struggling to gain any business from their websites, a canny few are more alert to the possibilities of marketing their business online.
But the problem even these savvy business owners have is shortage of time - to learn the necessary skills and to put them into action.
That's where Internet marketers come into their own. With the skills they already possess and a new direction in which to pursue them, online marketers have found themselves a whole new 'niche'.
While the term 'offline niche' isn't everyone's favourite name for this new marketplace, there's no doubt that at least those people in the IM world will have no problem understanding what it means. And the marketplace isn't actually that new. Big business has been online for some time. In fact, many businesses are big because they have a good online presence.
Owners of smaller firms, meanwhile, often haven't had the time to follow them onto the world wide web. And a lot of small firms still struggle to see the point. After all, their small local businesses don't need a global marketplace.
But the world wide web can be local, too, and it's local searches that are revolutionising the use of search engines like Google, Yahoo and MSN, and transforming the fortunes of those businesses who know how to use them. Local searches, coupled with established Internet marketing techniques, mean opportunities for the quick and the (not necessarily) brave.
Find more about the offline niche in further articles and information to be added to these pages in the coming weeks.
